Keeping Healthy in the Winter

In the winter, it is more important than ever to take care of ourselves, as there are a number of things that can make people more vulnerable to illness in the winter months. Over this coming winter in particular we should make sure that we take extra care of ourselves as it is expected that seasonal illnesses such as flu will be back with a vengeance after being curtailed by last winter’s lockdown.

So what are the things we should be doing as we head into the winter months?

Keep Warm – To avoid health problems and the worsening of illnesses it is important to keep the home warm, particularly if there are elderly people or infants living there. Make sure that your heating is in good working order before the winter sets in, and if it needs repairs get a professional such as this Boiler Service Gloucester based company HPR to do this for you. A thermometer in each room is good to ensure the temperature is right.

Eat Well – Making sure we get the right vitamins is important to help keep our immune systems strong so plenty of fresh veg, as well as healthy hot meals is good during the winter. You could also take daily multivitamin tablets to make sure that you are getting the required amount of vitamins.

Keep Active – Being active doesn’t just keep you warm it will also help to ward off seasonal affective disorder or SAD that is a low mood caused by a lack of sunshine. A brisk walk in the woods or going to the gym are both great ideas in the winter.
