The medicinal qualities of trees
Trees help to produce the oxygen that is vital for us all to breathe as well as reportedly having a positive impact on our blood pressure, heart rate and stress levels. It is for this reason that more and more people look to protect the health of the trees in their gardens with the help of a professional Tree Surgeon Poole way. But did you know that trees have been responsible for helping us treat some of life’s more troublesome illnesses. Here is a brief list of just a few of them:
- Willow – this has been used as a way to treat pain and fevers and in 1890 Felix Hoffman used acetylsalicylic acid which was derived from willow to help treat his father’s
rheumatism. This was then later marketed and sold as what we now know as aspirin.
- Olive – we all use olive oil nowadays and its health benefits for their heart and reducing the risk of Alzheimer’s, Parkinsons and type 2 diabetes is well documented.
- Cacao – this is not just a delightful chocolate producing tree but has also given compounds that are used in cough suppressants for those suffering with asthma. It can also reduce the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. This of course doesn’t mean you can eat as much chocolate as you like!
