For example, invite your friends and family to a special dinner to celebrate your new job or your child’s graduation.

When someone pays you a compliment, they are doing you a kindness. Don’t shrug it off or try to downplay the praise. Instead, take a deep breath, look the person in the eye, and say, “thank you.” Of course, you can always show appreciation for those who helped you along the way by acknowledging them as you graciously accept the commendation.
