What is vardenafil?
- Vardenafil is meant for muscle relaxation. This compound also causes an increase of the flow of blood to definite areas of the body.
- Vardenafil is effective for treatment of sexual disability (known as erectile dysfunction or impotence) in males.
- Besides, vardenafil can also be taken by patients having other symptoms.
What should I discuss with my doctor before taking vardenafil?
- People who are taking a nitrate medication to treat painful sensations in the chest or heart problems, like nitroglycerin isosorbide dinitrate (Dilatrate-SR, Isordil, Sorbitrate), isosorbide mononitrate (e.g. Imdur, Nitro-Bid, ISMO, Monoket, Nitro-Dur and others) and nitroglycerin (for instance, Nitrostat, Nitrolingual) shouldn't use vardenafil. Keep in mind that, apart from the compounds listed above, recreational drugs, such as amyl nitrate or nitrite drugs (widely known as “poppers”) contain nitrate as well. If you mix vardenafil with any of these medications, it may lead to an unexpected decrease in blood pressure which results in fainting, a stroke or even a heart attack.
- During clinical tests a low amount of volunteers reported vision changes, like a sudden loss of eyesight after taking vardenafil. This effect results from the decrease of blood flow to the optic nerve of the eye. However, it is still unclear whether this side effect was provoked by vardenafil. The risk of having this side effect increases in patients with diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure or a history of eye problems, as well as in smokers of people aged 50 years and more.
- Take vardenafil with caution and consult with your doctor before starting the treatment in case you have
- a history of stroke or blood clots;
- a bleeding disorder such as hemophilia;

- retinitis pigmentosa (that is an inherited condition of the eye);
- a physical deformity of the penis (e.g. Peyronie's disease);
- or if you were recommended to give up sexual activity because of poor health.
- Keep from using vardenafil or adjust your dose properly and take special tests during treatment in case you have one of the conditions listed above.
- FDA pregnancy category B: Vardenafil isn't meant for women, nevertheless, this drug can't be considered harmful for an unborn child. If you are already pregnant or planning to become one you should inform your doctor before taking vardenafil.
- Despite the fact that vardenafil shouldn't be used by women, specialists still don't know whether the compound appears in breast milk and can have a negative impact on a nursing baby. So, if you are breastfeeding, you had better consult with your doctor before using vardenafil.
- If you are 65 years old or more, you may need a lower dose. Pay attention to the dosage adjustment before starting the treatment.
