As for the remedy for BPH treatment, alpha-blockers help relax the muscles around the tube draining urine from the bladder (known as urethra) and improve overall urinary symptoms
Do NOT use Terazosin if:
- you have an allergy to its ingredients or to similar drugs (for example, prazosin)
- you are under a phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor (like sildenafil) which is usually used to treat sexual disability in men.
If you have one of the conditions listed above, you had better consult with your doctor before starting treatment with terazosin

Some DRUDS MAY INTERACT with terazosin. If you are taking one of the listed below drugs and want to start using terazosin, you should inform your health care provider beforehand:
Besides, other interactions may occur as well. Before you begin to use terazosin, it is recommended that you read all the related instructions, to adjust your dose and, if necessary, consult with your health care provider
How to use Terazosin :
- Terazosin comes with an extra patient leaflet. Read it carefully and make sure everything is clear, and you don't have questions.
- In case you occasionally missed a dose of terazosin, take the drug as soon as you remember. However, if it is time for the next dose, it is better to skip the missed one. After that you should return to your standard dosage schedule. Keep away from taking two doses at once to catch up. If you missed more than one dose, you can ask your pharmacist about your new dosage schedule. Ask your pharmacist or doctor all questions regarding the usage of terazosin and its effect.
The drug's label contains precise dosage instructions, so check it before starting treatment with terazosin
Important safety information:
- Keep in mind that the medication may lead to lightheadedness, blurred vision, dizziness or drowsiness. Always use it with caution, without mixing terazosin with alcohol or other drugs. Avoid performing unsafe tasks or driving until you know how you react to terazosin.
- Never drink alcohol or take drugs which may lead to drowsiness (for instance, muscle relaxers, sleep aids) when you are under terazosin, otherwise its side effects may be aggravated.
- The first dose of terazosin may provoke an unexpected drop in blood pressure, so it is recommended to take it at bedtime and then, if you have to get up during the night, you should sit up slowly and after that stand up slowly. These measures will reduce the risk of lightheadedness and dizziness. Such side effects generally occur at your first doses of terazosin or if you increase the dose. However, some patients may experience lightheadedness and dizziness at any time while they are using the drug. If you stop or restart taking it, you may have these problems as well.
- Those who use terazosin to treat high blood pressure may feel tired and run down for several weeks after they start taking the drug. Keep using the drug even if you don't feel “normal” and inform your health care provider about new symptoms you developed, if any.
- Sometimes terazosin provokes a prolonged and painful erection. Such an effect may occur even if you aren't having sex at the moment. As soon as you noticed this condition, you should seek immediate medical assistance, otherwise permanent sexual problems, like impotence, may develop in future.
- Terazosin isn't meant for use in CHILDREN; such issues as terazosin's effectiveness and safety in children haven't been studied yet.
- PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you are pregnant and need to take terazosin, you should consult with your health care provider to prevent undesirable interactions and side effects. It is unknown whether terazosin appears in breast milk, so you have to discuss with your doctor the use of this medication and potential risks, if you are breastfeeding a baby.
